Dear Mother and Dad,

I got into camp- at 2:45 Sunday.  I’m at tent city now. I’ve been issued part of my uniform, had a vaccination, and an inoculation and my arms are plenty sore.

I got on the train at 9:30 Friday night & went to bed. I had an upper length number 9.  Changed trains at Pocatello and traveled all day- had an upper length no. 12 into Portland, changed trains and came into Tacoma.  It rained from the time I left Salt Lake until I got into Portland.  It sure is pretty and green up here.  It rained today so we had a little inside pacing.  My shoes are a big surprise to me, they are 7 ½ EE if you can imagine that.  It’s plenty cold up here, so when I get into my permanent quarters, I’ll need my robe and leather jacket, and Marie’s picture. I don’t know how long I’ll be in tent city, so I’ll tell you later where to write to me.  I miss you all, but I’m not homesick, yet, and I’ll be glad to hear from you so write a big one and have it ready.

                                                Love,

 Joe
