#82

Dear Son,

Received your letter #71 Saturday morning, so you had a day off, what is this?  I hear you are now a cook. Imagine it would be nice after these crates all the time. It is something different for a change. But it is too bad you had to be cheated out of your rating. Well don’t feel too bad about it, maybe you will be out shortly if Emily and our plan works out to get you out of the army. Emily went to see someone and we have to go and get two certificates from the doctor stating we are not so well, your pa anyway, because the help he has don’t amount to anything and he really needs your help. I guess Emily wrote you all about it Sat night as she told me she was going to and we have to send the letter and certificates to your commanding officer, so I hope it will all work out alright. And we will send you a copy of everything so you will know what it is all about. Emily is going to have supper with us tonight so we can get everything straight, then Saturday we can go and see this party she was talking about. Well I had company Thursday, you remember Elsie Olson, well she called me up the day before and asked me if I were going to be home. I told her I was washing so she said well she would come over on Thursday. Her son Bud has a baby boy. They are staying with her. They have been married 5 years and they are building their own home out south, so she wants me to come out next week and have your pa come for supper. But you know him, he said I can stay and he will fix his own supper.  Well I won’t stay as long as he won’t come out. John was here Friday. He stopped at Regina’s first and then at Bertha’s but she wasn’t home as her and Andy went shopping but, Glady was home. He came over at 2 o’ clock. He looks pretty good but I guess he gets pretty tired because when he came in he looked awful. We took him back in the evening he had some more teeth pulled so now he has only 4 left. He said he is going to try and get down in the sun ward again. Where he is now is too much like a hospital. Bill you said not to send any more packages. Well we won’t, but we sent you one the 10th and Elaine sent one the week before. Sure hope you get plenty to eat now that you are in the kitchen. You sure have a bunch to feed but I bet the time goes faster then. Went out yesterday to look at 4 jobs and it rained pretty near all day and night but today it is swell. The sun is shining, and your pa is working out in Oak Park. He intends to finish the job today if everything goes alright. I hope you didn’t spend all your money in sending that package. I suppose we will be getting it some day soon. Will let you know when we get it. Well I better close now hoping we will have good news soon if this idea we are working on to get you home works.  Hoping you are in good health and best of luck always.  We are fine and we hope to hear from you soon again.  Now don’t eat too much so you don’t get to fat. Lots of love and kisses.

P.S. Bill how is it that Emily don’t get any mail from you?  Aren’t you writing to her?
