Dear Folks,

I have meant to write before this but I have had a lot of things to do. I have been temporarely transferred to M co. 3rd Battallion 222nd. & also we have been taking physical fitness tests to see if we are qualified for POR, POM, or POE. There is one shipment already to pull out for Fort Mead Maryland and there is another shipment going to Fort Ord, Calif in 2 or 3 weeks time and I am going to try and get on it. I don’t believe that Bakersfield or Chico are very far from there so if I do get on the list I will try to see Don and Rita while I am down there. How does dad like his new car? I doubt if he can get very many miles to the gallon with such a large car. What do you plan on doing with the little steer calf? Do you think it would pay to make veal out of him?

The air cadet deal hasn’t come through yet.

I wrote to the Tulsa cadet board but haven’t received an answer yet. I talked to C. O and he said that all applications were frozen for sometime until these shipments of men from the 2nd Army were completed.

Will you tell Clara that I sure would appreciate it a lot if she would get that Colonel in Seattle to write me a letter of recommendation for the Air Corps. It would sure mean a lot because most of these officers would look up to that more than they would if a civilian had wrote it. Write soon I enjoyed your two letters very much.

                                                            Love

                                                                        xx Mike

Dear Gram,

I am sorry that I have not written any sooner but will try to make up for it. Are you all by yourself again? Why couldn’t dad of taken you along. You looked swell when I was home but if something should happen while you are alone in the house such as a relaps, then that would be very serious. Please try and get someone if you are alone.

Well Gram, I toke another physical 2 days ago and got classed as P. O. E.

We have received a lot of A. S. T. P. men for training. (Army Specialized Training Program)

I know now that there isn’t any way in the world to get out of this outfit unless you go P. O. E. You can not be transfered to any other branch of the service from this outfit. We had 6 fellows leave for the airCorps about 3 months ago and they sent them right back here to the same Co. because the infantry had a priority.

I am sending a picture that I had taken in Muskogee. These fellows and I have been very close throughout our training.

            Write soon.

                                                Much Love,

                                                            Mike xx
