Thursday afternoon, December 21, 1944

Dear, I wish you were here to see this big girl. She’s getting her 15 & 16th teeth –The fourteenth came through yesterday. –So the excuse for the spunk –there’s a little today –but golly she’s cute. She’s sure got a sense of humor. & smart. When I used to say she knew every word –I thought she did but oh boy! Now besides knowing them all, she says them all so plainly now. & if I say a word (on purpose) in her baby talk when she was little –she’ll say “bad Mommy” then say it right or nearly right.

She still says Packy for patsy & weak for wreath. -& a few.  It’s afternoon so I don’t know if I’ll get a letter. I hope I do. I hope your pkg. from us come before Christmas. –You’ll get from your folks – 3 from us & 1 little one, & another little one from me and Lou, & one from church & one from Lilia. - & I mailed the 120 film today.

I hope this war news doesn’t mean too much more trouble. I have a feeling it’s the high spot right before the end. & I also feel like the two wars will be over at the same time.

There’s a pkg. here for Lou from Donnie -& just as soon as she saw it she said “Bobby” which is the name of her red doll. -& as the paper’s torn I see it’s a blue one exactly like –so it is a “Bobby” but she knows she’s to wait till Christmas. – doesn’t seem to mind. A big red & white sucker tied on another of Donnie’s pkgs. is pretty tempting. –but it’s now 6:30 & Dad should be here any minute now –so I hope there’s a letter –but if not, I wouldn’t mind as I’ve had some this week.

Company came & so I didn’t finish that other pkg.

It was Mrs. Caffery. She’s funny! –Holiday don’t mean a thing to them. Their silver wedding came & it wasn’t even mentioned. I guess they’re at the other extreme from me –us- She [doesn’t  appreciate] Genora’s remembrance of everyone’s birthdays etc. She’s always saying that Carlson’s must be disappointed in Frank and Genora as they don’t go to church. I guess she’s jealous because Genora get married before Marjorie. Marjorie is older – They’re cousins you know. – Oh gee dear I get blue when I think of the months without you. When we’re so in love it seems such a shame. –But I pray it’ll soon be over so you’ll be on your way home. –

More later.

-10:15 – no letter –but I don’t mind because I got those others, but now my heart is anxious for a letter from you since this German attack to hear what you say. I pray it won’t affect you bad. –oh darling – oh darling- just read between my lines & see how bad I want you.  Safe at my side- your sweet little daughter wants you too.

I washed my hair so I wish you were here. My cousin Burnie (Nell’s sister) had a baby. Her boy is Louise’s age. Now a girl. We’ll visit her Monday when we go to see your folks Christmas Day. Another friend of mine had a baby too. I only got 6 cards today but I guess we’ve got our share. I am playing hi – low –Jack and the game with Dad.

LATER

Dearest, it’s after midnite & dad & I finished playing cards. He won 10 & I, 5; so I guess I’m just lucky in love for which I’m very very glad.

I’m so sleepy I probably can’t write – my heart aches to be near you darling.

I can’t hardly believe Christmas is here.  Tomorrow not much, Saturday practice.  –No I just remembered she’s in her nap then -& Sunday is the big day. S.S. –practice –open pkgs.  Then your folks come, then to church & cross our fingers.

-All my love dear. Our hearts will be together dear even if we aren’t on Christmas. Love Sweetheart Patsy.
