Sunday Morning

Dear Sweetheart,

Another weekend without you. Did you really think you’d be gone this long? We are entering into our third year of separation now, but are determination to make each other happy when we do meet again is even stronger. Really, our first year apart was the hardest. Wonder why the Navy has a policy to the effect that men must be returned home in a certain length of time while the Army has absolutely none? Suppose that is unanswerable at your present location, huh?

Haven’t had any word from Dave since that initial letter informing me of his whereabouts in Texas. I shall always regret that he isn’t better prepared academically, I guess you’d say! Perhaps he will find himself in the army and realize just what he needs and how to obtain it. I still feel that the main purpose of education is often defeated; education should aid one to develop initiative and a method of reflecting on one’s own problems. Incidentally, one can free oneself from many fears, but can develop many new ones! That has happened to me! Afraid I’m not making myself very clear; it’s difficult without you here so make me explain my thoughts - - this requires a “give and take” type of conversation and the interjection of your valid opinions! Please hurry home, Sweetheart!

I love you,

Berna Lou
