Friday morning

Aug. 31st

Dear Fran:-

Well they’re still running our ass off around here but I guess after this week they will calm down, I hope. We haven’t even had time to turn around and see who’s next to us. I received your letter yesterday with pictures and money didn’t exactly need the money as I got my check from Steel Co. I owed $12.00 then 50.00 goes home as soon as I can find time to get to the Post Office so that didn’t leave too much left. I’ll try and send a couple dollars home to you. I like your pictures very much send some more, the one where you had your raincoat on was the best of the two. I received a letter from Dad yesterday and he didn’t say one word about you so you can see its my mother, my dad wouldn’t say any thing about my honey. Honey as long as I love you, you shouldn’t worry about a thing. Why ask me if I cheated on you when Mary was down here, you’re crazy. We spent the whole evening in the hotel room and she can tell you I was very good boy. I told you I get a marksman’s medal for qualifying with the M1 rifle. Today we fire the M1 Carbine its still a 30 Cal. rifle but much smaller in build only weighs 5 ¼ lbs and our other rifle weighs 9 ½ lbs. We had a class after chow last night on how to assemble and disassemble this carbine. I guess ‘till I come home I’ll be a gun smith. I’ll probably get my package today or tomorrow. I suppose we will work all day tomorrow instead of half a day because a lot of fellows didn’t qualify. I fired the first and second day since that have been special detail on the range. One day I worked in the pits pulling targets, next day I worked on ammunition. Yesterday I was telephone man in the pits.

Incidentally I started this letter Friday morning and I’m now finishing it and its Sat. morning. I hope you’ll forgive me this week because my letter writing has been so good but I really mean you don’t have any time.

Starting Monday we go on a 40 hour week with Wed. afternoon off and Sat. afternoon & Sunday off. This only means when we are working we will work twice as hard so I don’t imagine it will be much benefit to us. Still can’t tell you whether they will cut our training but I hope so, so I can get home to my honey. I love you very much honey. Today we have a formal inspection that means all our equipment and ourselves. Be good.

                                                                                                With all my love,

                                                                                                            Your honey.
