Thurs. morning

Sept. 6th

Dear Fran: -

Well you’re wondering by this time what happened to me. I also am wondering what happened to you because you’ve been writing so well then the last two days I haven’t heard from you. We left camp Tues. morning with full field pack and didn’t come back until Wed. afternoon. We went to Pickett Range for Transition firing and camped there all night. As you might expect it rained all night so when we got back we were a crummy look-ing bunch. I slept with Norman as we had to stay in our own platoon. I didn’t fire all day Tuesday instead I worked in a fox hole putting up targets and boy you should hear those bullets whiz over your head you really think you’re in combat. I had my honey in front of me all day. I put your picture up in the fox hole and thought plenty about you all through the day. I fired on Weds. Morning and qualified again so you better tell all those deer up there in the woods to watch out for me when I come home. Yesterday afternoon after we returned we had a V-J day parade. The whole camp participated so it was very large. They were passing out like flies the heat was so bad. Last night in place of chow they threw us a party in the mess hall. They had cold cuts, celery, potatoe chips, potatoe salad and 42 cases of beer and some cokes. We all sang and had a lot of fun in general only a couple got drunk but they were just kids so I guess they thought they’d act big. Today we start bayonet drill so I suppose we have that for the next week. Well the weeks are passing quite rapidly but not fast enough to suit me. The sooner I can get home to see my honey the better I’ll like it and I think you feel the same way. I got a letter from dad yesterday and he told me they were put out especially Verna that you couldn’t leave them have them have the radio a couple of days but we’ll just forget about it now. Well honey haven’t any more time so I’ll close and get ready to fall out. Before I close I mustn’t forget to tell you I love you more than anything in the world. Give my regards to your folks and all.

With all my love,

Your honey.
