Friday evening

Sept. 7th

Dear Fran: -

Just came in from a night problem and its now close to midnight. We left early this morning and was out in the field all day so I’m mighty tired but I know you’re looking for mail just as I do. We marched out about 2 ½ or 3 miles then had a class in Malaria Control one hour of calisthenics a class in cleaning a mine field. This afternoon we had to lay a mine field and tonight after it got dark we clear-ed the mine field. Coming in tonight we were really on the move, sometime try walking 128 steps in one minute and see how [edited for content] fast you’re moving. Tomorrow from 8 to 10 we must get ready for inspection and from 10 until chow time we go for a couple more shots, in the afternoon we must have our G.I. party in other words house cleaning from top to bottom. Haven’t been doing anything outside of go to the Red Top which is nothing more than a beer joint just off the post where Bob, Norm, and my-self have been going to drink beer and eat hot dogs. Received your letter today also one from George, it was rather short but at least it was an answer. I received a letter from Al yesterday not much news but he hoped I’d soon get out and get back to a clean start some different from what we previously been living. I’m sure when I do get home with my honey we will start anew and act like a married couple should act. I do love you and you do love me so we should get along just fine. There’s quite a few fellows from Phila. here in our barracks and when we get home they all want to have a party so when you meet me in Phila. we will join them. Did you see David when he was home? I don’t suppose you did since his stay was so short. I hope he gets his discharge soon he deserves it. You wanted me to get you some-thing from the P.X. well our P.X. isn’t like the one you visited at Camp Pickett. All you can buy in this one is Toilet articles, stationary, tobacco, and ice cream candy sodas & beer so when I get you something it will have to be from town. Still plenty of rumors but can’t take any faith in any of them. The last one was to cut our training to 9 weeks instead of 17 so lets hope it comes true. Well honey I think I’ll hit the hay and write you over the week end. I love you, be good and I’m doing the same.

With all my love,

Your honey.
