Dearest,

Darling, what on earth were you thinking about when you wrote that letter? I guess you were tired. You sounded like you were in deep thought about some important matter and as a sideline were writing a letter. The material was fine, but the finished product was not like yours. Thank you dear, very much for it, and I really was glad to hear from you so soon.

When I said you’d get over me soon, I didn’t mean one or two days. Soon can even be a month. It could be more than that.

I have missed you until it has driven me to distraction. I’ve been so crabby at work, they wonder about me, really.

I have seen two movies this week. Can you imagine such a state of affairs? There has been no word from Pritchett. I still miss her.

I don’t have very many letters to write as I haven’t received many. It is pouring rain. The girls are running outdoors barefooted with raincoats. The Regimental Colonel had dinner with us today, accompanied by his charming wife and son. We really appreciated his company – eh! What am I saying? We had fried chicken, which was very good. I’m afraid he’ll make a return trip.

It is time for evening mess – 5:00 pm Sunday. I’m hungry. Georgia and I went to the matinee. On our way it began to rain. We really were soaked upon arrival “home.”

If I find out anything unusual, I’ll write you Tuesday. Otherwise, I’ll wait for your letter.

                                                            Lots of love,

                                                              Martha

Continuation:

Ode and I brought our dessert home from the mess hall, and the “ole coffee pot” is buzzing again. We had iced chocolate at the mess hall, horrors.

Ode and I and a few of the girls went to the P.X. last night and drank some beer. After it closed, we had a few cases outdoors and some of the fellows from work etc., drank it, that is, their beer with us.    The first Sgt. Decided she wanted to play tennis this A.M., so she dragged me out of bed. I really sweat out that beer in a hurry. It was hot out then. The court was a mess, so I got the bright idea it should be swept. We did – ouch!

You must really have been tired when you arrived home. I’m glad you needn’t go to Washington as travel is very tiresome. Have you seen Evelyn?

I stayed home every night until Friday when we went to the movie, then last night to the P.X. I haven’t caught up yet and I’m still tired.

People can’t tell a thing from a picture, but it was mighty good of your folks to be so sweet. Thank you, too, for putting in a good word.

Best of luck, my dear, after you get to camp. I’m going to be a private for the duration, it looks like.

Did you know Camp Campbell was too far away to get to a three day pass? I didn’t, but I do now. Be such a sweet honey as you have been and let me hear from you.

                                                            Lots of love,

                                                              Martha
