My dear one,

Just this minute a letter from you and though it is just a note from a very unusual place to write a letter I hasten to answer though I am cutting into a most busy period to do so. (Put Hq. VI Bmb. Cmd. on my letters for they lose a day getting me looked up in the APO#825) spent all morning in Gen. H’s office with a number of others and came out with a peck of work to be accomplished and which I must get to at once for tomorrow morning is the deadline on some of it.

Your letter sure sounds like old times dearest, moving vans, gas, light, heat????, telephone and whatnot. Sure hope that it does not wear my little bug down to much. And about that Fuller brush man---well---I guess he is one of the oldsters these days or class 4Z. -----Time out, mush interruption. Damn I had several things in mind to talk about but now with other things coming up they have flown the coop. I’ll probably think of them after I close this letter.

The big 4th of July lottery was this week—double pay—and I bought a ticket. I am glad to report that I had the last digit right thereby collecting tow dollars. One dollar profit. Like a good business man I have invested my profits right back in the business and gave m driver the buck to get TWO tickets for this coming Sunday drawing. Two Thou will come handy. I still have your silver dollar to invest. Drove over to the other side yesterday (Sunday) afternoon and saw the new highway thru the jungles and made a tour around looking at old places. Much new stuff of course and a thankfulness that I am not on that side for duty. Of course all the shops were closed but they seem to have the better shop and from the things in the windows they might have some things that you would want. Sometime in the future I will try to get over there for a looksee with my darl9ing lady in mind. Had dinner at the Strangers Club. It has been all remodeled and is the nicest place that I have seen down here. Drove back after dinner and had enjoyed the afternoon very much. It really is the first thing that I have done here since I arrived out of the routine.

Honey Buncher you might if you would be such a nice girl and after you are thoroughly settled (phonetic huh!) save up a bunch, say five or six at a time of the Sat Eve Post and Colliers and just for the drive run them out to Kelly Field to the same place as you put me out to come down here and give them to the Air Transport Command officer there in the warehouse building to put on a plane to be brought to me. Address them the same as my letters. That sounds like a lot of trouble but they would be awful welcome sweet. Don’t get me started on a swell continued story and then cut me of. I am still wondering what happened in that RAMROD story. I’ll bet there was some good shooting at the finish. Also Time Magazine. They get the overseas edition of the Time here but they are scarce and I seldom see one. I intend to get up to the library here soon and look it over but have not as yet. I was due to go away again about now but will be here for the next week or ten days due to a war problem coming up. Will depart after that for a spell.

The new tables of organization for this command have just gone forward and calls for a brig. General for the job I now hold. I haven’t the faintest idea whether there is a chance of getting it or not. The fact it calls for it is something. Of course there will be quite a spell before approval and then it necessarily does not have to be filled if WD says not. Anyway it is a glimmer. That is for your ears and eyes only my sweet Patootie.

Did you get the money orders I sent recently, (June 30)?

I must get back to my task dear heart but will be back ere long with more so bye the bye till then with much love to you Diane,

Edwin

P.S. Gus just called and will be here for the night- we are giving a farewell party for Jen Johnson at the mess this evening as he is going to another command (but not back to the U.S) Sure long for you dear, I guess you have completely surrounded my heart- being away from you for temporary periods was a lot different from this.
