San Juan, 1/30/44

Dear Jane,

Read your letter of the 19th- typewritten-spoiling the effort of a novel piece of stationary. (Say you!)

Glad that everything stands “Par” with Ethel.

Bob Hochstettler always was o.k, cake or no cake.

One day when the Nogles used to occupy Fruman’s place, several years back, “Dad” said Anna (speaking of her looks, appeal, strut.) used to be good until “everything dropped.” Something of the past has apparently been resurrected. “They laffed [laughed] when I stood up- before I read a Tia-Fic girdle ad.”

No use sending a full sized picture of Judy here- HOLD.

Have new pen- like one you gave me, only grey. And Lester says one is already in the mail from him. NO- don’t send one.

Saw hi’ya, Sailor? Last night she answer being: Felt fine until seeing the picture, a stinkaroo from start to finish.

Read a letter from Arlene, a typewritten v-note from Bill yesterday. Apparently it’s a parallel between New Guinea and Ensenada. Good living conditions but no place to go.

Apparently those two pies- perhaps the glamour of a uniform-fooled everybody.  The P.L.D. ~ and Lester say their good- and I look so well-fed now. I never ate less. Would hardly switch Canterbury House fare for Navy “take it or leave it” chow.

                                                                                                                                                Chas.
