Dearest Sweetheart

Here it is ten whole days since I left you. The time seems to drag by in one way, and then again, I don’t know how I have lived without you so long. How are you getting along? Hope you aren’t having any financial troubles yet, or at any time in the future for that matter. I’m sure that the Lincolns, especially my father, would have money for you any time you needed it.

Just had a call from mail. I received your beautiful letter written in red. The paper and everything was very nice. Honey darling, it’s so good to get your letters- and the little Mary elf- know what I would do if I were there now? Can you guess? Right. I’d kiss you with all my might [edited for content]

I’m sorry to hear about Jack W. I suppose Mrs. W. is all excited about him. How in the world did his ear ever become infected? We’ve heard quit a good many repeats on the effectiveness of the Sulpha drugs. So Jack should pull through okay. Remember me to him, and tell him I hope that he will soon be out and in good health again.

Two other fellows and I went to the morning pictures last night. As usual we saw a war picture. The title was “Island H43.” It was interesting in some spots, but still a war picture. Franchob Jone played the leading part. One little phrase almost made me cry. The leading man got mixed up with some crooked politicians. His wife disliked some of the crooked things that were being done to poor people in trying to take their land from them. She said it one part, “I love you Charles, but I don’t like you anymore.” “I love you darling, but I like” came right to my ears.  I couldn’t see or control myself any longer. It was funny seeing a picture without you dearest. Have you seen any pictures lately? Hope they were interesting and made you think of me.

It’s interesting to hear about the garden. Bet it’s growing very well now, especially with all the loving care that you bestow upon it. I guess the Japanese Beetles like soy beans better than anything else in the garden- maybe they could help if they would confine them to one place. Send me a picture of the garden, will you Sweetheart? I’d like to see how everything is growing.

Honey, I always see you in your red polka dot gown. Remember how you taught me to notice every little thing? Have you worn it lately? Wish I could have you here now. Bye darling Mary Bum. Billions of Kisses

Was there any message in the last part of your red letter- I thought it was more than your darling signature- was it? Bye Bunny and Mac and Pussy
