Monday A.M.

Dear Mother and Dad,

Well, it seems the moment I decide to come to Ft. Wayne, the Army decides to leave.  Walt was almost certain that they would be staying longer but plans were suddenly changed.  They leave tomorrow sometime for their Point of Embarkation which, we think, will be the West Coast.  We’re both very blue but we’re thankful for the past few days we’ve had together.  We don’t know whether or not he’ll be able to come off the post again before he leaves but if he can arrange it, I’m going out there this afternoon.

I’m planning to leave for home tomorrow evening and should get home sometime early Wednesday morning.

Walt is fine and is looking forward to his new adventure.  He had a chance to leave this outfit and join another but he said “No.”  With the time almost here, he said he couldn’t make the break.  I’ve met his superior officer, Lt. Yancey, and he’s a great person.  Walt likes all the fellows in his outfit and gets along grand with them.

It’s been terribly hot here – how about there?  I’m writing this with the feeling that Mother is home and not in North Carolina – Am I right?  I’ll see you both very shortly.  Walt wanted to write but couldn’t seem to say what he wanted to.  He sends his love to you both & says not to worry about him.  He’ll be alright.  That’s all there is for now so I’ll close.

All our love,

Helen and Walt
