Dear Anna,                                                                                           May 18, 1942

Received your most affectionate letter and I am very happy to know that you are all well.

I am glad to know that you received the pictures and gift and I am glad that you like them and hope you will always keep them with you.

I am sending you the handkerchief and a pennant to give to Rosalie I hope she will like them she can hang the pennant in her room if she likes.

Things are moving along pretty fast down here they sure keep us stepping. On there own accord they decided to put me in what they call telephone communication groups whatever that is, as I understand it this group takes in spotters, observers and etc which is supposed to connected in some way with the central control system of the gun position.

I hope you are progressing in your school work and I certainly hope you succeed in getting your raise as you really should get more money for the kind of work you do.

I am sending you a little list of items that I would like you to send me if you wish to and I would like you to send them as soon as you possibly can if necessary use extra postage to save time.

            1) Throat tablets, prefer medicated throat discs or whatever you think best for sore throat.

            2) Bedroom slippers anything cheap will do so I can wear them to the bath room when I take a shower.

            3) Some plain white handkerchiefs (no initials)

            4) Some kind of hard candies anything will do.

            5) Id it possible get me an army belt for my trousers as the one they gave me is a little small the cloth kind size 38 or 40 you can get it in army or navy store for about 50¢

This is all I think I need for the present.

There isn’t much more that I can think of to say except that I am always thinking of you and I hope you are taking good care of yourself and give my regards to everybody.

                                                            Always yours,

                                                                        Tony
