My dear Bobs:

Your two letters, one written at Gulfport Thursday, and the other finished at New Orleans Sunday, just received.  Awful sorry that you did not have a clear day while at New Orleans, and that you did not get to do what you wanted to do while there. I think that hotel is the same as the one mother and I were at. Carl Meyer address is:

                                                                                                Carl D. Meyer A/S

                                                                                                Deck 3 Univ. of Dubuque

                                                                                                            Dubuque, Iowa.

We had nobody at the cabins last weekend. Gano Senter and the wife were up Saturday night and we had a nice visit with them. They sure raved about your museum. Took Gano for a short ride up around the sawmill trail, but he isn’t much of a rider. Alta Bruno called me Friday and said she and a bunch of W.A. A. C.’s would like a cabin over Sunday. Later called and changed their mind. It’s just as well, as the cabins are all cleaned up now and don’t care about Mother having to do the job over again after somebody else. Note Howard got $10.00, and I suppose there was nothing you could do but let him have it. It’s O.K. and we’ll probably hear from Mildred on it shortly. You don’t need to hesitate to ask him to help you out on any “stickers” that you might run into on class. He should have it pretty well in hand now that he’s taking the month over again. You have helped him out plenty on coaching him, so don’t hesitate at all to tell him what you want in the way of coaching, if you need any help. I can fully realize your disgust at the weather down there, and it’s my hunch the weather at Corpus Christi will be about the same, as it’s right on the gulf the same as where you are.

Now, as to your choice; you do whatever you think best. It makes no difference to us—we will meet you wherever you go sometime in Oct. or Nov., as directed by you. I believe Corpus would be easier for you than Chicago, and more liberty. So far as College credits, etc. are concerned. Forget it. You don’t expect to follow Radar after the war; (although you never can tell how circumstances might change –you might at that-) but don’t worry about cramming your brain to the point of hardship to get any credits. You enjoy the Lab. Work, and if you don’t get the limit on theory, what the heck. There is a possible advantage of being right under Eddy at Chicago, but the whole thing is so big you can’t count too much on that angle. If you finally decide on a try for Corpus, and you want me to write the proper party urging your assignment there, let me know what you want me to do, and I’ll do it pronto. On the other hand, if you do ask for Corpus, DON’T COUNT on getting there, as from what you say, the chances of getting there are more or less uncertain. Am I right that it would be Chicago or Corpus. Are there any other points to which you might be sent? What’s the dope? Possibly you might ask for Corpus, with the thought in mind that if you get your request, O.K.; if not, and you are assigned to Chicago, then that’ll be O.K. too. Is the line-up that those who don’t go to Corpus, do go to Chicago? Above all things, I don’t want you to build up to the limit on ONE place and then get let down by being assigned somewhere else like you were before. Mother and I don’t want you to penalize yourself by arduous study on prospects of the future. I note what you say about humidity and rain in the winter down there. Be awful careful that you don’t pick up a bad cold as I note you say you “slept cold” last night.” Do be careful you don’t get your bottom pinched on the springs, and note carefully the write-up in recent post about the kid that got caught in the zipper, you’ll remember I’ve mentioned that “hazard” –Boy, oh, Boy. What a deal he got into. Last Saturday or Sunday’s Post – Front page.          Margaret will be tickled pink with the lamps- - so nice of you to send them to her. Your package will undoubtedly arrive later today. We won’t peek beyond the inside strings, as you ask.

You would probably find some M U S H Y stuff. Eh- - what?   But we don’t want to hear about any “serious” ideas. I can appreciate what you say about the difference in night-life at New Orleans and that at Chicago. Not much to choose from at New Orleans, is there? I imagine that darn rain is common-place at every location at every on the gulf coast; no matter where you go. Yes, the people are too lazy to exert themselves on a square dance. I’ll keep my eyes open at the Eastman Kodak store for the leather case you mention. Mother will take care of the bag detail, you can bet on that.

Well, I went up to the cabin Monday afternoon and did some more work. Sunday afternoon I rode over to see Lou Sanger, and I made a deal with him to pasture the horses in the enormous pasture that runs from Pierre’s fence clear over to the road that goes to his house from the main highway. It is even a better pasture than Poppy Wright’s. I told him I would not put the horses in there until after the first of the year. He said O.K., and to arrange a gate at the corner of pasture adjacent to my south-east gate at top of the hill so they could come down into our place for water. This I have done- - did it yesterday. It is like this.

If Shiela really has a colt, he says he will take her into small pasture around his barn and look after her. Told him I would pay him extra for feeding her and looking after her and the colt in cold weather. Sooooooo I’m all fixed for this winter as far as pasture is concerned, and hope I can use same arrangement until if and when I get control of Wright’s place in a couple years. If arrangement with Lou works out O.K., that would make a swell set-up for me, and I wouldn’t need to worry about Wright idea at all. Well, I got home last night about 8.30 only to find that I had forgotten “movie date” for Foreman’s Club at Cosmo. I promptly got on the phone and found principal speaker was still talking and movie didn’t go on till 9.00 P.M. Boy- - did I step- - and how. Well, I got there O.K. ten minutes ahead of time, put on a good show and everything was fine and dandy. The fat of the case was that I had understood the date was for Tuesday night instead of Monday night. I made $11.00 on the deal. Tonight I will put on another show at the Central Christian Church U.S.O., our church is sponsoring the evening this time, Herb Scott is in charge. Next Saturday night I start off the Seventh Day Adventists Series for the fall. I may put on another movie for the GRANGE next meeting, Friday Oct. 6th. Note in picture I have changed saddle and power house. Of course, when we leave the place I put them in Power House. Note wooden pegs installed in garage logs to hang saddles on. Real dude ranch stuff, eh? Another set of pegs on INSIDE of garage. Mailed you box of cup cakes Monday afternoon. Hope they go through unbroken.

Well, I’ll get this over to the P.O. and you should get it Thursday, or Friday sure.

                                                            Your Pal,

                                                                Dad
