14 February, 1945

On and on we sail--across the endless sea,

And many thoughts of you, Dear, come flooding back to me--

A warm and sunny summer day, a stroll beneath the trees,

The wondrous way we enjoyed life--so happy, so gay so pleased.

I remember, too, our first date—‘twas the night of the first blackout

And it was a shame to hide your beauty, though only I was about.

And the many hours we spent together, walking side by side;

‘Twas that, that was the basis for this love we cannot hide.

And I tried so hard to make you see how much I cared for you,

But you were always doubtful and never thought it was true.

Still I was ever insistent and my precious time did hide

For this love I fell for you, dear, could not lie cast aside.

And many days and nights went by, and many a sorrow I bore,

But I was still determined, yes, to make you mine forevermore.

And then that night in Tampa, then by the quiet bay,

You told me that you loved me, and that it would always be that way

At last the struggle was over was over---I could see in your eyes so bright,

And my heart was bursting with joy, on that we’ve found each other, that’s how it will ever be,

For I belong to you, Dear, and you belong to me.
