James Goodwyn was born in Chesterfield County, Virginia. He served in the 15th Air Force as a bombadier on a B-17 bomber. He was based in Italy and flew 26 missions over Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Germany. James Goodwyn had an excellent record as a bombadier and he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. His letters were written to his future wife, Elizabeth White. He is currently retired and lives in Midlothian, Virginia.
