Sunday afternoon,

Dear Folks:

I am still in Tacoma on my weekend and thought I would drop a line on this fancy stationery. Very seasonal and all that isn’t it?

I didn’t go back to early as I planned last night but stayed in one of the U.S.O. dormitory buildings over night. For 50 cents we got a nice soft bed, clean sheets and blanket, shower and towel. It was at a place called Ruston about a half-hour bus ride from the center of Tacoma. It was a small country town right on the banks and we had a nice short visit. We awoke about 9 o’clock had breakfast and walked around. At eleven we went to High Mass in the Church of the Holy Cross located out here. It was the first High Mass I attended in quite sometime and it was quite impressive. It was only a small church but they had a big organ, choir and everything was quite dignified.

I made another record for your amusement last night and you should get it in about a week. Nothing much on it just idle chatter and gossip.

Thanks very much for the glasses Dad, they are swell. I have them on now as if it’s a very warm, sunny day out here. Just like the middle of July. So long for now-I will walk around a little more then go back to camp for supper. It’s just 2 o’clock now.

                                                                                                So long,

                                                                                                            Joe

P.S. I decided not to mail this until I went back to camp. I’ll send it by air-mail and get it there fast. We left Tacoma about 4 o’clock and just got in camp for supper. We’re pretty tired walking up and down the Tacoma hills-and they really are some hills. Some of them look as though they are straight up, never saw such hills in all my life.

Tomorrow I resume going to Mass again for your Easter present. At 6:30 we have it every night in our own chapel. I also plan on making my Easter Duty this week sometime you see we can even reserve Communion at night if we rest a few hours.
