Saturday,

Dear Joe,

Things are about the same as usual out here in San Fransisco.  We are still at the Hunters Point Daydock out here.  I stay on the ship most of the time while I’m around here.  The others go into town almost every night but you can generally find me in my room and the Troop office.  Now if we were in New York I’d be off the ship as much as any of the others.  Probably more so.

How is everything going at home?  Things are pretty hard I understand.  Such times as shirts, coats and suits are priced pretty high now aren’t they?  GI shirts are cheap enough but the color is not suitable for civilian use, correct?

I suppose you have seen Denny’s new picture.  Estelle sent me one and he sure looks big.  And I think the picture is very good don’t you?  He’s my boy!

How did you like the movies?  Pretty nice aren’t they?  That was a good investment I thought.  Now if I didn’t have them you wouldn’t have been able to see Denny as a real small baby at all.  And I’m sure Denny himself will get a pick our of seeing himself in a few years.  It’s too bad you can’t have sound pictures.  That would be even better yet.

It’s getting late and I’m hit the sack now.  I have been getting some mail from you but it’s slow this time.  I’m not the only one.  All the fellows are saying the mail mail is away behind schedule.  Hope they catch up soon.  It’s the Christmas rush that has caused it.  My shirts got here yesterday.  Tell ma.

Tom
