Tuesday Noon

Dearest Jane:

Hello sweet, how’s my darling feeling today?  Fine I hope.  I received about four letters from you today.  Also got the money order.  Thanks for sending it.  That was plenty.  Got a letter from your mother also.  She told me about Dorothy and Gene’s baby being born.  That’s fine isn’t it?

Honey did you think I wasn’t going to write you.  I wrote two letters last week.  You should have got them by now.  The mail service is poor here and its take longer to get mail out.  Honey, went to Los Angeles this past week end.  Marie called me long distance Friday night and she and Art and Emaline came after me.  They got here about three Saturday morning and we got to Los Angeles about 8.  Whitehill went with me.  We sure did have a good time.  Marie and Art were really swell.  We got a three day pass, came back Thursday morning. Will try to tell you where we went and what we saw. I sure wish you could have been with me, but some of these days we will make a trip to Los Angeles and you can see it all too.

Saturday afternoon Whitehill, Art and I went to Lony Beach, and watched them swimming, saw some pretty girls there with not much on.  Then Saturday night all of us went to the Brown Derby and Cocoanut Grove.  And boy of all the movie stars.  The place was full of them.  Guy Lombardo’s orchestra was playing at the Cocoanut Grove.

There we saw Carac Londis, Betty Grable and her husband.  Ann Sheridan was with Ken Murray.  Bud Abbot and Lou Castillo were there too.  That’s all I saw that I could recognize.  Then we went to the Brown Derby.  Saw Gary Cooper, Bing Crosby and his wife. May West was there with about 3: Jack Oakie and two others that I didn’t recognize. Jimmy Darsey’s orchestra was playing there and also the Ink Spots were there.  They sang “Do I Worry” and I had it dedicated to you and mother and all.  They announced over they mike that the no. was requested by Sergeant Harris for his wife and mother and Dad in Washington D.C.  Boy did I feel important.

And honey I danced two dances with Ann Sheridan.  I was so scared I could hardly stand up but I think I did alright.  All the movie stars were dancing with soldiers.

That’s about all we did Saturday night.  Sunday we rode all over Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and Hollywood. Went to Ocean Park and ate a fish dinner.  We had swordfish; it was really good.  Sunday night we went to see Earle Carrels, and boy was it good.  I want you to see it.  Monday Marie and Whitehill and myself went back to the beach.  We had our picture made and sending it.  Doesn’t Marie have a suntan?

We really did have a good time.  Art said he would come after me again so I may go back again Friday week.  Don’t know yet though.

Honey, have the Red Cross write soon enough.  We are supposed to leave here the 24th for maneuvers so have them write before then.

Tell Mother and Dad and Sybil hello for me and give them my love.

I don’t know any news other than what I have told you so you can tell them or let them read the letter.

            Will write again tomorrow.

Lots of love honey and take good care of yourself.

Love to all,

Clive.
