Dear Mom:

I received your most welcome letter under the date of Sept. 6 and was glad to hear from you. I also received the money you sent and a million thanks for it. You write that I have a lot of money in the Kitty. What Kitty do you refer to, and how much have I got? I would like to know. I don’t know what I’ll do with it; maybe I’ll buy a car and maybe invest it in some good stock. I don’t know just yet. I am seriously thinking of going to school (on Uncle Sam) and take up refrigeration, that is, on small units like household items.

Enclosed you will find a newspaper clipping of the Victory Parade held here in Portland. Your little son led this parade. I was the right color guard and all the men have to follow that position. I wrote the boys at the B/L and told them about it. I also wrote that it was a temptation to continue the march straight on down a street rather than turn. Wouldn’t that have been funny? All the spectators would have lined the curbs waiting for the parade and the parade would have been on another street. Oh boy!!!

I see “Bozey” Hemmeter is home. I guess he has enough points to get out now doesn’t he? What about Danny Wills when is he getting out? I’m in for a discharge but I am being held for 90 days. Essential… that’s me… The army can’t do without me. I knew that from the day I was inducted. (Oh yeah?)

Gee, I’m sorry to hear that Pop has another bad cold. He sure gets ‘em bad don’t he. I do hope by the time you receive this letter, that he will be well and around again.

I see where Matt was down over one week end. Speaking of Matt. She found a receipt for some money I sent to Marie to hold for me and she wanted to know what it is all about. I told her I wanted a little bank account of my own. Now I’m in the dog house. I don’t care though. She does a lot of things I don’t like either. So we’re even. I hardly think she will say anything to any of you. If she does, just say Norm don’t want anybody to know what he has. That’s all…. Now don’t go and worry about it. We never did hit it off any too good anyway.

Ha-ha. So Randy don’t like school. I guess he takes after me. I never liked it either.

Boy Ole Cap is living like a king isn’t he. First thing you know, he’ll have them dado’s doing his work for him.

Yes, Mom, I got the letter and money you sent to Tacoma. I wrote and told you, I’m sure. Are you sure you didn’t receive the letter from me?

Well, I’m feeling OK and glad all the rest at home are too. So till later I’ll say so long and God bless you all.

Your son,

                                 Norman Lee
