Dear Folks,

Well I got plenty of mail yesterday. I received 3 letters from you, and a card from Lottie. I received the picture, and is it ever good. I can’t think of a thing I would rather had for my birthday. The letter was dated 18th Jan. (17 days) that isn’t bad. I wonder if you have received any of my letters. I’ve written several. I sure would like to have some black walnuts. You can tell Marb Ha! I’m buying a $100 war bond a month now. So when I get home I will have something. I’ve been buying a 50 for a year now. I increased it. Lenore didn’t say a thing about the money she sent. Anytime just drop her a line and she will send it. This Franc money had be about nuts. I keep the unit fund and it runs into plenty Francs. We are getting plenty of cigarettes now, but I certainly could use some crackers and cheese. I think that would be the best thing you could send. Lenore and the children seem to be doing fine. I received a letter dated the 18 of the month. Something is wrong with the water here and I have to make about 4 or 5 trips a night to the Latrine. I guess I’d better close and write Lottie a few lines.

                                    Your loving son
