Dear Elva:-

Your cake and etc also 2 packages of clippings showed up during my absence from base so I got them Thursday night about midnight quite a surprise the cake was used to fill me up that night because I was cold hungry and tired 3 of us made cocoa, scrounged some bread and we sure appreciated the cake by way of proving it one Capt Foslin from Boston Mass who was with me and after the cake was eaten said Now Jack that was a good cake but tell her that the next one should have just a little more ginger in it just a touch and make the icing just a bit thicker dont take it seriously he was so damn glad to get something to eat, myself also that he couldn’t help telling you about it. we had been on a 3 day & 2 night jaunt thru mud, ice, frost, cold, and junk until we were about ready to hit the sack never mind we’re ok now and all set for the next one which is due any minute I’ve been thru the papers page by page very interesting and quite illuminating some of the stuff was sure new to me. Thanks very much for all the fine things you have done for me because I know full well that you’re so busy on your own affairs anyway I hope you and the folks are all well and prosperous and that you enjoy a very merry Xmas and happy new year

Very truly yours,

John a.
