Tuesday 18

Dear Mom,

I received your letter yesterday but I was so tired I didn’t write last night.  It really made me feel better when I got it too.

Naturally when you go back for seconds they give them to you and sometimes more than you got the first time.

There isn’t any place here to get your wash done but they gave us a brush here and we have a wash room with running water.  All we wear is a sweatshirt under our green over hall jackets.

Never mind about sending me the paper because I won’t have time to read it.

You and Pickle are doing all right on collecting.  Tell Pickle to write me. I wrote him about the first week I was here.

I haven’t heard any more about our classification and won’t till after I’ve left this place but hope I get radio.

I have looked among all the boys I’ve seen but I haven’t seen Davie yet.

It isn’t cold in our hut because they give you all the coal you want and we keep our stove partly red hot.

I’m glad to hear somebody is thinking of me.  You said the Smiths have been coming up.  I have written at least one and sometimes 2 letters every night but haven’t heard from any but you and Julia and Miss McComb.  Today I received a tie from the Sunday School and really enjoyed it too.  Midge wrote a note on the back of the envelope.  She was the one that sealed it.

Well I think I have answered all that was in the letter you asked me and hasn’t anything happened around here so I’ll stop now.

Tell some of the gang to write me.

With love

Your son, Joe
