Dear Mom and Dad,

I’m on guard duty again from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.  When you go on guard duty you are on for 24 hours but you have different shifts.  I was on from 2 to 2 last night and from 10 to 2 today and then that is all I’ll have for about a month.

I’m sitting in the Guardhouse now as acting Corporal.  I am sitting at a desk with a stone beside me.  I don’t have to go out any.  I have a runner that I send out with any messages or telegrams that come in.  I also have a radio on my other side.  I heard Blondie and Dagwood last night and also heard some good music.

I received your letter yesterday but I forgot to mention that I had gotten it when I wrote last night.  I couldn’t think of anything the other guys were making so much noise arguing.

Last weekend some Marine got in some kind of trouble so they have stopped giving weekend passes and 72 to the boys in Co B.  I don’t know how long that will last though.  I hope not very long.

I found this broken emblem the other day and though I would send it to you.  I know daddy can fix it up and make a pin of it.  If you take steel wool and rub it, it will shine.

I wouldn’t mind having daddy’s job covering those seats maybe I could get to see the show free.  Mail call just blew so I’ll have to hand the assorted mail out to the Platoon Barge as the come in.  Love Joe.
