Mar. 22 1944

Dear Mom & Dad,

I received the letter you wrote on Mar. 19, 44 and enjoyed reading it. What Billy said about not seeing anyone is just about true. There won’t be anyone left after this next bunch goes. Did Mr. Mason want into the Navy or was he put in.

I wrote Preston a letter the other night so I guess he will know where to write. I also wrote Sis the other day. The day I was on guard duty I didn’t have anything to do so I got 4 letters written. I think I wrote one to Gladys too I think. I write so many I can’t keep up with who I have and haven’t written. Well we haven’t [done] much today but stand in chow line and study the B.A.R. I took one apart and put it back together 3 times today. I feel back in the service now. At night, all I take off is my shoes. Practically everybody does that way. When I get up in the morning all I have to do is put my shoes on and fall out, my knife, fork and spoon right in my pocket. (Great life)

Well I got to stop now because it is 4 minutes till 10.

                                    Your son

                                    Joe.
