Dear Mrs. K –

Thanx for the letter, I haven’t time to do much replying, just thought I’d acknowledge it and then let writing slide the rest of the week.

Davis wrote that she was by to see you all, that’s nice, I’m glad she found you at home.

For heaven’s sake don’t feel badly about Jackson and I in the army, not only will it not hurt us but it will probably [be] more than beneficial. For Jack at least, he went right to his job from college and got little chance to shop around to see just exactly what he would [have] to offer in the way of a career. This may open up something brand new to him, he has no strings or connections on him and he made small sacrifice in leaving what he had been doing. If he and I do the sort of thing in the army that I have planned for it will be excellent training with zero risk. There’ll be nothing heroic about our soldiering if we do that sort of thing. It’ll just be a job with a uniform, but as safe as civilian life in all other respects.

Gotta go now, big doings are brewin, please write again soon.

Gene
