June 2nd Friday

Dear Mom-

I’ve been on guard and have the morning off so I’ll take the time to drop a line or two. I wrote Ginny last night between shifts. Hope she is well and will soon be up and around again. Nice that Daddy could come up to see her. I haven’t heard from him for a long time. It was expensive, but I’m sure it was worth it. Too bad she didn’t have hospitalization. It would have helped so much.

Hope by now the income tax and insurance business is all straight. I have heard nothing more about the allotment. It is being taken from my pay so I’ll guess you’ll get it soon.

Heard from Gene yesterday. He finally got one of my letters. He said he could not arrange to meet me in Birmingham, but we may still be able to arrange it later.

Helen Elliott one of the cast of the play is not far from here and I plan to meet her in a nearby town soon. She’s with the Red Cross.

Swell to hear that Sus is home. Hope Cheatham makes it back soon too. He expected to go back in April or May. If you see Sus tell him to write to me, and send me his address so I can write him. He’s got a swell post.

Don’t forget that box of candy. I know you’ve been busy and all that, and I know it’s sometimes hard to get it. Wish you would send me some every once in a while. I’ll send a request if necessary. It’s one thing I really miss. Have you got a recipe for icebox ice cream? Send it to me sometime. I think I’ll try my hand at it if I can get the ingredients.

I have a couple of other letters to write so I’ll close now. Love to all,
