Dear Mom –

I again have an opportunity to write you a few lines.  I spent all yesterday fixing my “home”.  Another fellow and I have our tents pitched in a very comfortable arrangement.  I got some straw from a French peasant that I have made friends with.  He also gave me some potatoes and two eggs, both of which are very rare here.  I cooked them this morning, I fried the eggs and hash browned the potatoes.  I’ve really become quite a cook lately.  Later I went back to the same place I mentioned before and did some more laundry.  I met a French woman and the kids with her asked me if I was German.  When I told him no he asked me if I had any candy.  I gave him a couple of pieces of hard candy we got in c-Ration and he seemed quite happy.  All the civilians I’ve met are very nice to us.  My slight knowledge of French comes in very handy.

Hope Ginny is ok by now.  Please let me know about the allotment and bonds as soon as possible.  Our mail hasn’t come through yet but it probably will within a few days.  So long for now I’ll write again soon –

                                                                                    Love –
