Dear Mom –

I have a few minutes now to write a few lives – the last few days have been busy ones for me – I should say nights as I am on the night shift. – I like the work I do – for it makes me feel I can do a little to help those that are suffering – We treat all wounded alike – American or German – it seems peculiar in a way – but that is the law of man and of God – somehow I feel that I have been drawn closer to God in these last few days than ever before – We had a service a few minutes ago and it does a lot of good to gather together for worship –

Our mail is slow again and I haven’t heard from you for several days – I hope some mail will come in tonight – I did receive two letters about four days ago – I also heard from Guthrie who is a Lt. commander now- He likes his post in Washington – It’s much better than New England I guess.

I hooked up my radio and we have been getting the news constantly. The reception is very good – The battle are going well for us and the Russians are advancing at a rapid pace – at every little bit of good news our hearts leap up - for it means one step closer to victory and home –

I find my French a little useful now and I’m picking up a little German –

I hope Ginny is all well now – I think of her often while handling casualties that have had operations – I also think often of Henry Fennell and Harriett Holland when I see the good work our doctors are doing –

I’m going to drop Anne a line now as she says it means so much for her to hear from me – Hope you are all well – I’ll write again as soon as I can –

So long for now –

Love

Jack –

P.S. I sent a money order for $30.00 the other day – hope you receive it OK.
