Somewhere in Belgium

Dear Mom-

I’m on night duty again and as the ward is quiet I have a chance to drop you a lin. Since I wrote a couple of days ago I have again visited the little town near here- It has really been wonderful to have a chance to do so- It makes it seem like I’m a civilian again or at least like a furlough. I bought some souvenirs and will send them as soon as possible. Some of the things are for friends and I wish you would send them or give them for me. From here it is so much easier to make one package.

The day before yesterday I went to town with one of the nurses. We spent a good part of our time shopping and window shopping. We stopped in once at a little place and had an ice cream sundae! Believe it or not- It’s been a long time since I had one of those- We certainly did enjoy it. Later we went to supper- and had French fried potatoes (Friscs) and eggs and a tomato- salad- and beer. It was an excellent meal. We had met some people in a Café the day before so we went back to see them. We danced and talked with the folks and had a grand time- yesterday I went in again and shopped some more with another fellow- We met a bunch of girls who attached themselves to us to have some pictures made by a sidewalk photographer. They went with us again to the little Café I spoke of and danced again- I can’t say how much I enjoyed it.

Belgium is a very nice country- I guess many people miss it in these European Travels but it really shouldn’t be overlooked- If I ever travel this way again I shall certainly visit Belgium.

I forgot to mention that I had my radio repaired- the condenser burned out when too much Voltage came through the line. They fixed it as good as new- tomorrow if I have a chance I want to drop in and visit the cinema- this town has everything.

Tell the folks I’ll write as soon as I have a chance- I’ll write you again soon-

                                    Love,

                                                Jack
