November fourth—Belgique

Dear Mom—

Haven’t heard from you for a couple of days or three but got a letter from Ginny the other day—also letters from Bernice Vines, Edna, Elizabeth Dodson, Mary Gresham, Marjorie Pearce and Charlotte Hawthorne—It’s good to hear from folks on the home front—

We’re still in rest and I’m still enjoying it—Saw “Harvest moon” last night and thought it was very good—I’ll probably get a chance to go to a town near here of pretty good size and buy a few little souvenirs within the next few day so perhaps I’ll be sending another package soon.  I hope to get something for many of my friends and I’ll ask you to deliver them for me please.  Speaking of packages when you send another will you send some unpopped popcorn—I don’t guess that’s rationed is it—?  It would be nice to have some hot buttered popcorn some time—

The song “I’ll be Home for Xmas” isn’t quite as popular here now as it was in June back in France but still the campaign goes fairly well and it’s not an impossibility.  I’ll settle for Easter any how—Gee it will feel funny to get back to the states after all these countries—

I wrote Sigel from England right after you sent his address but a while ago I received the letter back again marked no such address—so I’ve lost track of him—I’ve lost track of Jack Nelan too—I often think about those fellows and wonder how they made out with their Army careers.

I’m writing Ginny now too and enclosing pictures of the long promised mustache—and some others too—Remember I said I’d do it if I ever got out in the wilderness—Well it was wild enough in France—What do you think of the result—the fellow with me was my pup tent buddy Ralph Brownell who also sprouted one and hasn’t shaved it off yet—Mine is long gone now, but I just got the picture developed—

So long for this time—write soon—

                                                                                    Love

                                                                                        Jack
