Dear Mom –

Just a line to say everything is ok. We’re still at the sample place – a couple of day ago I mailed that package I mentioned. Hope it arrives all right. I had a letter and a package from Helen. She sent lots of candy, deviled ham, sardines, cigarettes, cigars, and even chewing tobacco. I think I told you I’d received one from Charlotte Hawthorne? Also got Sunny’s book “I never left Home” It certainly is good. I’ve read about a third of it.

I guess by this time Gene and Harriet are married. That’s sort of a surprise to me. I didn’t expect it somehow or other. Wonder where he’ll live and if Harriet will do any nursing. It seems to me Gene would be the sort of fellow who wouldn’t want his wife to work but it would be a shame for her to have spent all these years and then no use her training.

The mail situation is somewhat slower these days due to the Xmas rush. I imagine it will get them soon though.

We had a nice Thanksgiving’s Dinner yesterday: Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, lettuce, celery, cake and coffee and the other usual trimmings. I really enjoyed it a lot – The cooks worked hard and really turned out a good dinner. I’m sure I won’t forget this thanksgiving far from home on other Thanksgivings at home. We’ve lots to be thankful for over here. Just little things perhaps but the mean a lot: Clean, warm clothes, a good bed, a chance to bathe, good food and good fellowship and friends. They’re the thing I’m thankful for.

It’s almost suppertime now so I’ll close for this time. Lots of love to all.
