Dear Mom –

Sunday evening and all is quiet.  This has been a nice day.  We had church this morning and after church a bunch of fellows and myself got together and sung a bunch of Christmas carols and other hymns and songs.  Had a good lunch and then went to a show put on by special services.  Got back in time to read a while and then went to supper.  Tomorrow I’m changing from day work to night work.  There really isn’t much different as there is not much to do these days.

Wednesday is my birthday.  Last year at this time I was at Fort Jackson S.C. wondering about a furlough.  Not much chance for one now I guess.

Your packages of fruit cake and candy and peanuts etc. arrived already.  Thanks a million.  It looks as though we’ll have a pretty good Christmas even if I’m so far from home.

In the song book you sent was the song “Lily Marlene”.  We first heard it back in France and I got the words to it when we were in Holland.  It’s a swell little song, one that I will always remember in connection with the war.

Nothing new, and very little to write so that’s all for this time.

                                                                                                            Love

                                                                                                                        Jack
