December 14th Belgium

Dear Mom,

I’ve been quite busy lately and haven’t had a chance to write very much. If you don’t hear from me so often these days don’t worry- everything is ok but my time is pretty well occupied.

I had a couple of letters from you the other day - One Air Mail and one V Mail -this time the Air Mail was a little quicker. I also got the “traditional necktie”- yes as you say, I hope I’ll be able to present in person next X-mas.

I got a package from Elizabeth Dodson the girl who worked with me at the SSB. She sent two cartons of Lucky Strike Cigarettes, some Palmolive Soap (by the way never send soap with anything to eat or smoke- it gives it that peculiar flavor) a pack of cards, this writing paper I’m using, and a book “A Bell for Adano”- It was awfully nice of her I thought. I sent a gift for her in that package I mailed you. Wrap it up real nice and send it to her.  It’s possible that it will arrive before X-mas, but at any rate fix it up for her please.

Had a birthday card form Aunt Kate today.  I don’t remember whether or not I told you I received a package from Norfolk which was a pair of bedroom slippers. I guess maybe Daddy sent them but I don’t know.  There was no card and the package was addressed by the store.

Sorry to hear you couldn’t get my films. I thought it would be difficult.  If you happen to run into any 620 or 120 send it on- we are able to get a little over here if and when we get a chance to get to town.  Do send some 620 or 120 film print paper if you can find it.  It comes in “Normal” and “Hard”- send some of both if you can.

About the allotment – It takes a long time for these things to go thru you know.  I haven’t been notified as yet, but they’ll straighten out my pay then.  I’ll send you what I can when they do.

I know Uncle Jim was proud to shoot that wild turkey. I can see him with the feathers in his hat now.  Too bad he broke his collarbone again.  He really has tough luck.

Glad to hear Aunt Kate is so much better.  I hope she can get to Richmond to visit you and Ginnie.

Must say Goodnight and get some shut eye.  So long for now.

                                                                                                            Love,

                                                                                               Jack
