January 31, 1945- Belgium

Dear Mom-

Received two of your letters today and several others from various and sundry people. Our mail is catching up with us now, these letters were dated the 25th of December and the 3rd of January- a day or so ago had a letter from Ann Long in S.C.- she said you had written that you were sending her Christmas present so I guess any package arrived ok- I’m glad to know that.

Es I received all the Christmas packages that you mentioned in your letter as well as a few others. Christmas for me was swell- it certainly was nice of all the folks to remember me. As I wrote before I didn’t write Tom and Virginia as I didn’t have their address, but I will write now.

Had a letter from Gene and he said that he was heading home. Perhaps he is there right now- I hope he gets a long leave before shipping again.

Things here are quiet I’ve been spending my time developing pictures lately; I’ll send some when I can. I’m anxiously awaiting that print paper. I have taken some pretty good pictures since we have been over here. I didn’t get a chance to get films and paper until lately, but I’ve made up for lost time.

I’m glad you sent Siegel’s address, I wrote him while I was in England and got the letter back in early France with the notation “no such” I’ll write him tomorrow.

Glad you got a chance to go home; I certainly would like to drop in on you all one of these days. The situation looks pretty good now so perhaps it won’t be too long.

That coconut came that you spoke of made my mouth water. We have good food but nothing like that. Oh boy I could go for a piece right now and about a quart of vanilla.

I’d better sign off now and write some other letters, so I’ll say “Goodnight”

                        Love,

                                    Jack
