The ninth of May-

                                                                                                            Germany-

Dear Mom-

            Well the war is over!

What we have strived so hard to accomplish has been completed. The Victory is ours- It’s half over now, and when Japan falls we can all go home again to normal living. Our work here goes on as if nothing had happened, we still have the sick and wounded to treat.

Everyone is thinking of home now, and wondering if we’ll be lucky enough to see the shores of the dear old USA before we see Japan. I hope with all my heart that we can get back if only for a little while. We all need a rest not a physical rest but a mental rest a little time to be with those we love, a little time to relax from the routine work that we have carried on for eleven long months. We’ll know soon perhaps what our lot will be.

There is a possibility that I will go to school over here. I may have a chance to attend one of the French or Belgian or English Universities while awaiting orders to return home, or to go to the Pacific. I’ll let you know more of this later.

Keep writing Mom. I need the letters more now then ever. Keep your chin up and your fingers crossed and perhaps we’ll see each other soon again.

                                                                                                            Love

                                                                                                                  Jack
