Dear Jack,

Well here I am writing to you after 8 months without seeing or hearing from you.

How did you ever come to be a marine? Were you drafted or join up? It must be exciting anyway. I guess your having the time of your life with those gorgeous geisha girls.

Now I will tell you a few things about my self. First of all I am going to modeling school and hating it. I just can’t get used to it. Secondly I am going into my Senior year in high and planning to enter Cornell College after high (that’s if they’ll take me). I was elected most popular girl of my Junior Class, thrill, thrill. I am still captain of the majorette’s and as active as ever.

Mother and dad and family are going up to Port Ewen all except me. The reason is: I am going to get a model’s job or some sort of work and I can’t stand just loafing around. Another thing I can’t stand is where we had to stay, it was so small and inconvenient. But I did have fun, there weren’t very many girls up there and I was something new and was made quite a fuss over. Do you write to Barbara? If so, give her my regards.

Barbara wrote to me for awhile and she happened to mention in one of her letters that Roger asked for my address, well if she did give it to him he never wrote.

In your letter you asked if you could have a picture, well enclosed is a snap taken in Port Ewen. I know it isn’t very good but in a few weeks I am getting my pics for modeling and will be sure to send you one. In you letter you mentioned you were in Va. for a while, well I have been writing to an old friend of mine who is stationed in Camp Peary, Va. Fire Dep’t. I have known him since I started high so when he went into the service he asked me to write and send a picture. [content censored] I must admit it was a nice picture. So, please don’t feel too dissatisfied with this snapshot as I will send you a regular photo in a few weeks. And please send me a picture of yourself in uniform in your next letter.

You’re probably wondering what “Kappa Delta Phi” stands for. It’s the name of my sorority

In your next letter to Al don’t forget to give him my regards and love and all the other fellows.

Do you remember the night we went to the church dance? I’ll never forget it. It was the first time I ever did a Square Dance. You remember Bob Hansen, well I wrote to him once and awhile.

Did you graduate or quit high? I guess you quit. If so you should try to get a War diploma.

So you taught judo. Ahem, I wouldn’t want to tangle with you. Or anything else (ha ha). How tall are you now? I am 5’5½”. I’ll get there.

Well Jack, I’ll sign off sending my regards and love and remaining.

As ever,

Elsie

P.S. Thank you ever so much for the money and emblem. I will put it on my jacket and naturally be very proud of it. If you have any desire for something that you can’t get in Japan I will gladly send it to you.
