Dear Mom,

How is the weather in old VT this time of year? Must be getting around to some real winter weather by now.

The weather over [here] stays about the same. Of course it is not near as cold as it is over there.

A funny thing happened the other nite. I rode into town in a taxi. The driver would not let me pay him. He took me to a “Pub” which is the British name for our beer garden. [He] bought me some drinks, [and] took me to see his wife and kids. We had quite a pleasant evening.
