Dear Mom,

Well, at last the war is over over here. Seems pretty good to have it wound up. There sure was a lot of celebrating around here in the town near by. Not no where near as much as there probably was in the States.

Boy! It sure is getting warm here now. Guess old summer is setting in for sure. Must be getting warm like over there isn’t it?

What is Laton doing these days? Pretty busy I imagine. Do you hear from Virg very often?

Got a letter from Polly the other day. She says Paul is working in Barre.  Wish I was working there. There is plenty of stuff here to buy, but it would take a multi-millionaire to buy a pair of shoestrings; things are so darn high. Tried to buy a strap for my watch and darned if they didn’t want the equivalent of $2.50 in American money for it. You could get the same thing for a quarter at home. By the way, do you think you could send me a lowpriced watch strap?

Well, guess [I] will ring off for now.

Love, John

P.S. Have you received the perfume yet?
