No. 101

Dear Billy:

I received your letter of July 18th on Saturday morning. It’s funny the way the mail goes sometimes. Both mother and Mr. Rudolph received your letters of July 20th on Wednesday, the 26th, and I didn’t receive your letter of the 18th until July 29th.

I’m glad you and art enjoyed the contents of my package. By the way, I asked you this before but you never answered me.  What is art’s last name and where is he from. Not that it makes any difference but I was just wondering.

Katie Houghton phoned mother this morning. Margaret just received a wire from her boy friend that his ship is docked in California some place and he will be home about August 6th. They were supposed to have been married sometime ago but he received orders to sail and all their plans had to be changed. Well, to make a long story short, they’re going to be married next Wednesday, August 9th. Everything has to be done in such a hurry and arrangements have to be made in such a hurry that they’re all in a stew, to say the least. She’s going to be married at a mass and is going to have a veil and all the trimmings. They are also going to have a reception for seventy-five persons out at the Sanford Hotel in flushing. They won’t be able to get the invitations printed in time so they are phoning everyone.

After the wedding, her boy friend only has two or three days and then he has to go back to California.

Arnold Thau’s boy came home last Thursday. He was in the invasion of D-Day and he also made another trip to France later. His boat carried troops over. Arnold said he was just about scared to death, which is quite understandable. He was home on a three-day pass and is awaiting further orders. He thinks he is going back overseas again.

Al Kennedy died very suddenly last week. He had a heart attack and was taken to Flushing Hospital. He was only in a few days when he died.

Well, I guess that’s about all for the moment, honey lamb, so I’ll say “Bye for now”. Let me know if you want anything. By the way, Mary returned from her vacation this morning and said she has your socks practically finished. They will be ready by next week. I’ll put them in your birthday package.
