Dear Joe,

Thanks for the swell time Sunday. Even though we didn’t go any place in particular, I really enjoyed myself. All night I dreamed of you and that “banana royal.” I enjoyed dreaming of you, but I’m sorry I can’t say the same about that “super-colossal dish.” I never knew I had it in me to eat even a fourth of it.

I hope you got back to the ship all right because I wouldn’t want you to be put in the galley.

You certainly did well in ice-skating yesterday but I’ll have to admit that I would have liked to have seen you take “just one little flop” just for the fun of it. I guess that’s the woman in me!

When I came home my mother was waiting for me and she gave me a long sermon. I listened and then ducked!??

All kidding aside I hope you get off Tuesday so we can go out because I enjoy your company. I don’t think I’ll be able to go ice-skating though because my mother says that once a week is enough. So if you want to go to a show it is alright with me. I have to be home at 11:30 because I have to go to school the next day. I could meet you about 6:30 and then we would have about 5 hours. It is now about 1 o’clock and I haven’t received your phone call yet. If I don’t get one tonight please phone tomorrow at 4 o’clock- Mott Haven 9-9756- and ask for me. I’ll wait then. Let me know if you can get off and all the other details. Please phone and let me know “what’s looking.”

I wrote the first 2 pages of this letter in school at lunchtime and a group of boys (just freshmen) were slowly but surely driving me crazy. They tried to get this letter but I was a little too fast for them. Right in front of me were 3 Latin students giving “Cicero” the 3rd degree and right in back of me were 2 Spanish students giving Span. the 3rd degree and all around me were “these fresh kids” giving me the 3rd degree. Gosh! You’re lucky you’re in the Navy.

I slept in practically every class today and I’ll probably do it all week.

If you do phone please (as I told you last night) emphasize the Muriel in my name be cause I have four sisters all of whom are capable of blackmail. (Don’t take me too serious on this point)!

You told me you liked to receive long letters so I am stretching my writing capacity to the limit.

It’s funny now that I think of it but I hadn’t even touched the ice when you came along and asked me to skate. I didn’t know whether you were holding me up or I was holding you up during that trio number. (I guess that boy was holding both of us up). When I go skating I usually wear an outfit and stay in the middle of the rink and do figure skating. But (believe it or not) I’m so darn bashful in that outfit that I stay in the middle until it’s time to go and then I make a dash for the elevator. Last night I decided I wouldn’t wear any outfit and I’m glad I didn’t because I wouldn’t have met you because I would have gone right to the center of the rink.

This outfit is my father’s idea. The only reason why I wear it is because it is easier to jump, spin, etc. in it.

Next time (if there is a next time) we go skating I’ll show you a few little tricks and maybe you could show me some too. Well I hope this letter was long enough for you because it really took a lot of composing to write it. Don’t forget to telephone tomorrow because I will be waiting for the call.

Please answer this letter as soon as you can and let’s see if you can make yours just as long as mine. Here’s hoping I hear from you soon.

                                                                                                                        Sincerely yours,

                                                                                                                        Muriel

P.S.

I couldn’t think of any other ending so if you have any ideas let me know.

                                                                                                                        M.B.
