Dear Mother:

I wonder how long it takes to get my letter. I got your letter today that you mailed Nov 17.

You shouldn’t do all the washing and ironing in one day. That’s too much.

The guy that drives the ice cream truck is the kid’s father that bunks in the same room. And is that kid a suck. Always trying to kiss somebody’s ass. The guys all see this and they avoid him because of that fat. I also try to stay out of his way as much as possible without breaking relations. He seems to be a sneak in some ways. He’s got a lot of nerve though. When he was at the breakfast table, he grabs the milk first and fills his cup and cereal dish and then there isn’t enough for the rest. They really like him for that too.

I didn’t ask for a sewing kit. I just asked about them. Now that I am able to go to town I’d get my own. Because all the army stores have the real thing in vary cheap too.

My arm didn’t get sore from all the shooting just a little discolored that’s all. The gun really packs a wallop but when the sling is adjusted properly you hardly get any recoil. Because the sling gives you a rocking motion and absorbs the recoil.

I don’t want anything for Christmas because there is nothing I need and anything extra would just be in the way and hinder me for inspection. About the only thing would be something like cookies.

Well it looks like the war will be over soon. Some of the officers give it about four more months. It was very warm here yesterday and today.

All week end passes have been canceled because the boys will be pulling out Saturday and Sunday.

            Well say hello to everybody.

                                                            Your Son,

                                                                        Melvin
