Melvin Meyer letters span from October 1942 until June 1943, during which time he was stationed in camps from Camp Crowder, Missouri to Tyler, Texas, to San Antonio, Texas and Pre-flight School. The last letter is dated June 16, 1943, just a few days before he gets his orders. Melvin Meyer went on to join the 305th Bomber Group of the 8th Air Force. He was a B-17 pilot and captain. He flew 30 missions over Europe, including missions over Germany. Melvin Meyer received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Clusters.
