Dear Mother

I am not making news in the true score.  I have stayed close to camp mainly because the weather is so tricky that it has been pretty hard to get a stretch of good weather.  I feel that there are so many months of good warm weather that a month or two of rain is only a small item.  About a year ago this area caught a snowstorm today.  I hope that such history is not to be repeated.

For about a week this mail went to nothing but now it has taken an upswing.  Perhaps the most remarkable one was one from Mary Anna.  It seems that Uncle Eddie paid Staten Island a visit recently.  He’s got troubles and I do mean troubles.  First off Mary and her foreign born prince have parted.  According to Mary Uncle Eddie is terribly P.O.ed about the whole thing.  He used revolt vile and pictoreous epetats concerning the man.  Frances is home with a son while her husband is in New Guinea.  As for Eddie – It is nice weather we’ve been having Mary Anna.  You can draw your conclusions.  From New York came a letter from one of the boys in the 10th Division.  From the way he talks I figure that he is right in New York City sweating it out to get out on Pass.  Before long I too will be sweating it out.  I hope that I am fortunate enough to lie around quite a while and then get a pass but that is something only time can tell.

Ask Pappy if he is sharp and on the ball.  There is plenty about this letter to make him perk up his ears.

                                    Love

                                    John
