Dear Father,

8 days for mail from the States is not bad at all. The letters you sent on 22 Jan came today. The clippings as usual were very welcome.

I believe Mr. F. would be an ideal partner in that self deal.

As to Auntie Ruthe, I believe that she is out of her head. The unmarried mother situation is rugged any way but the deal she got into to make a fuss is in my eyes a Hornet’s nest. Your father I believe would shudder if he knew that one of his daughter-in- laws was so badly fouled up. Speaking for myself and believing that the other branch (William etc.), the younger generation, would feel the same, Aunty Ruthe should be given a wide berth, like a [unreadable].

Didn’t get finished, got to shooting the breeze and went to bed.

Today, my duties of Master Sergeant about finished, now a supply Sergeant for 5 days. Doubtless it seems strange that I would prefer the rear echelon to the forward one on the discharge. Really by holding up 5 days I can clear an additional $100 to $200. Of course in comparison to $5000 a year that is chicken feed. For me however it is gravy. I’ll be home in time to get the storm windows off, see the apple blossoms with you, cut the hedge and the like. Also attend school again.

I am enclosing the poop on my thumb. Keep it. Original with service record may get compensation. Also poop on transfer a month ago.

I am on orders 5 Feb to start home.
