Dearest Clara,

Will try and drop you a few lines this evening. I am a little tired from standing on the deck, but I am going to bed pretty soon and try and get some sleep. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I hope I can do better tonight. I was dreaming about you last night, I could see you and the kids just playing as if I were there. I was tormenting all of you as usual, but I wake up startled and you were gone. I had to go on guard this morning again, but I only have to stay on for 4 hours in the morning. I am fine, but I think I am catching some cold; my nose is stopped up some. I sure hope you stay well. Darling, I can’t think of anything more to write about, so be good for now honey and I’ll write soon.

To my darling wife with lots of love and kisses,

                                                                                                                                                      Your hubby Johnny
