March 23, 1944

My darling,

We didn’t get to go out on the range, it rained this morning, but turned nice by this afternoon, it is a little cool, but the sun is out very nice even now. Should have a beautiful day tomorrow.

My Dad is quite busy fixing things up for the baby, he must be expecting things to happen soon. He is fixing the little hopper seat. I think you know what they are like, and the little stroller, it looks like new, but he wants to try to get new tires on wheels for it if he can get them. I mentioned something to mother that you may come home for awhile if I ever go over-seas. She said instead of getting an apartment, and like to stay a little by yourself, they would fix up the third floor for you. (my room) I always liked that place, a little cool in winter, but when you have covers its nice. She also said she would be very glad to have you and the baby, she also said she didn’t think she was hard to get along with.

I was kept quite busy today running all around camp today, it makes time go by so fast when I have something to do. Tomorrow we have a 2 ½ hour bike, which shouldn’t be too bad. (I hope)

Charlie is down along the coast of Texas doing some gunnery and skipping over the waves. He said some of his instructors are just back from combat, and give them some tough flying. I saw in the paper today that they cut out aviation cadets, turning them loose to different branches of the service.

Do you really want to know what I think about all day? Well I will tell you. I think of you not only most if the time, but all the time, at night I even dream of you.. I think of you being down here soon, and I can hardly wait. Remember last year how glad you were when you came back to me out here. And you say you didn’t love me. Can you tell me why you ever quit school? And you better give me a good answer. I was really happy when you came out here, buy that is nothing like the way I feel about you now. I love you.

You wouldn’t have had to bake me a fresh cake my dearest. I was willing to settle for this one you had. Don’t wait too long to bake it or sent it. Sometimes you do now.

My darling I love you so much. Try and keep happy and smiling for me. Your most handsome dearest husband. This weekend will be very lonesome again my dear.

I guess I will go to the show.

Don’t you work too hard my dear.

I love you with all my heart.

                        Preston

I have another little prayer book which my church sent me. I’ll show it to you soon.

Forgot to tell you, Dad’s birthday is on the 25th.
