Mon. Mar. 7

Dear Mom and Dad,

Well I have a few minutes so I will sit down and write a little. There’s not much to talk about. We had our first encounter the day before yesterday. I was out on patrol and the squad I am in ran smack into some soldiers dug in gaps. The air was full of bullets and grenades for about five minutes, and then it was all over. They are just as fanatical as you read about. The ones we didn’t kill blew themselves up with grenades rather than be taken prisoner.

I was scared, but not near as much as I thought I would be. In fact, I rather enjoyed it, and am eager for more now. I just thought of Bill, and it made it like killing so many rats.

Well, I have nothing else to say for now. I sure would like to get some mail. There has been none for about 3 weeks now. Tell everybody what I write and that I would like to write them all but just don’t have the time now.

Give everyone my love and a big hug and kiss to Sheri for me. I sure would give anything to be able to see her.

Bye, bye for now, and don’t worry. I’ll be home before you know it.

My love to you all,

Jack
