Gustav and Anneliese Seuthe

Gerhard Seuthe was a German soldier in Camp Carson, an American Prisoner of War camp, during the closing days of World War II. He was twenty-two years old at the time that he received these two letters from his mother back in Baberg, Germany. Gerhard was a farmer in North Rhine Westphalia. His farm had been called Baberg. As the war drew to a close Gustav Seuthe, Gerhard's brother, was in a Russian POW camp. Gustav's wife Anneliese had lived for a few years in East Prussia, but left shortly before Russian troops had arrived. She found shelter with her in-laws at Baberg. The family remained in Baberg until Gustav returned from the Russian POW camp in 1949. Gerhard was a farmer his entire life. He died in the late 1980s. He never married.
Gustav Seuthe was an elementary school principal. He was married to Anneliese for over fifty years. Both Gustav and Anneliese passed away in recent years. Gustav disliked the war and thought of that time as the lost years of his life. This information has been graciously provided by Gustav's granddaughter, Anja Seuthe.
